When selecting an appropriate caster frame, the first consideration should be the load-bearing capacity of the casters. This is especially important for places such as supermarkets, schools, hospitals, office buildings, and hotels, where the flooring is typically smooth and the movement of goods needs to be stable. (Each rolling bearing can support a load of 10–140 kg.) For such environments, it’s advisable to choose casters with a thickness of (2–4 mm). The caster frames are made by stamping thin metal sheets and then electroplated with castor oil. These frames are lightweight, highly maneuverable, quiet, and aesthetically pleasing. According to the arrangement of the balls, electroplated caster frames can be categorized into double-row ball bearings and single-row ball bearings. When moving or transporting items, it’s recommended to use casters equipped with double-row ball bearings.

Simple casters, yet a world of knowledge.

  The selection of wheel-rail systems

  1. When selecting an appropriate caster frame, first consider the load-bearing capacity of the casters.

  2. In places such as factories and warehouses, cargo handling is extremely frequent and involves heavy loads (each casting machine bearing weighs between 280 and 420 kg). Therefore, it is suitable to use double-row spherical heavy-duty casting machines made of thick steel plates (5–6 mm) that are hot-forged, stamped, and welded.

  3. If used for transporting heavy objects such as those from textile mills, automobile plants, and machinery factories, where the on-site load is high and the travel distances are long (each continuous casting machine bearing weighs between 350 and 1200 kg), after cutting and welding, extra-heavy-duty continuous casting machines should be equipped with thick steel plates (8–12 mm). The movable wheel frame should feature flat ball bearings and bottom plate ball bearings. The casters must be capable of handling heavy loads, rotating smoothly, and resisting impacts.

  Bearing Selection

  1. Trelle Bearing: Trelle is a special engineering plastic suitable for humid and corrosive environments. It offers moderate rotational flexibility but exhibits high resistance.

  2. Roller bearings: Roller bearings that have undergone heat treatment can withstand heavy loads but generally offer moderate rotational flexibility.

  3. Ball bearings: Made from bearing steel, ball bearings can withstand heavy loads and are suitable for applications requiring smooth and quiet rotation.

  4. Plain bearings: Suitable for high-load, high-speed applications.

How do you determine whether caster wheels are of good quality?

Casters should always operate smoothly and stably on the ground—but this is almost purely a theoretical ideal. In reality, casters frequently encounter brief, jagged surfaces when leaving the ground, or cross thresholds, tracks, and potholes. Consequently, when they suddenly become overloaded or when three-quarters of the casters lose contact with the ground, they must bear the entire weight of the furniture.

What are the differences among different swivel casters?

These two types of casters, due to their different functions, also serve different purposes. Swivel casters are suitable for food transportation in restaurants, while non-swivel casters are better suited for food handling in environments with a higher degree of mechanization. Because the materials used in non-swivel casters are relatively harder, many factories prefer these casters—they’re far superior to the swivel ones.

Principle of Antistatic Casters

Electrostatic casters are typically made from conductive materials such as metal or carbon fiber. These conductive materials have excellent electrical conductivity, enabling them to quickly dissipate static charges to the ground and thus prevent their accumulation. In addition, electrostatic casters feature a special structural design that enhances their conductivity and grounding effectiveness.
